2008 Convention

The 2008 PCRRHS Convention was held on September 18-20 at the Radisson Lackwanna Station Hotel in Scranton, Pennsylvania. While Scranton was really a Lackawanna city, the Penn Central got close to Scranton, reaching nearby Wilkes-Barre. However, there was still plenty of PC to experience at this convention. You can see pictures of the event here.

Friday included the annual business meeting in the morning, followed by a tour of the former PC Wilkes-Barre Branch, now operated by Canadian Pacific as their Sunbury Main. We viewed the former PRR station in Sunbury, ate lunch at the former PRR station in Northumberland, and viewed other rail-related sites on the way back to Scranton, including the former depot in South Danville and the former Reading Catawissa Branch bridge over the Susquehanna River at North Catawissa.

Saturday featured an excursion over the former Lackawanna main line from Scranton to Tobyhanna. This route is now operated by shortline Delaware-Lackawanna. One of the locomotives powering the trip was DL C636 3642, built in 1968 as Penn Central 6342.
