HO Scale

Walthers announced the second run of their Metroliner.  Paint schemes included are Amtrak Phase II and Penn Central or Amtrak patch for the Coach, Snack Bar Coach, and Parlor.  They will be offered in standard DC and DCC with Tsunami sound.  The PCRRHS worked with Walthers to develop the included decals that will allow for several Penn Central and early Amtrak versions.  Many cars ran with PC lettering or minimal Amtrak letteirng well into the seventies, so these cars are the most typical for a PC era modeler.  Suggested prices are $169.98 for DC and $259.98 for DCC with sound.  www.walthers.com

Rapido had a July 4th surprise, announcing both an HO and N Scale FL9.  They will be offered in 9 paint schemes, 3 of them Penn Central, each scheme with several road numbers, and undecorated.  Although fairly limited to the commuter lines north of New York City, this is one of those models that will define your era and location.  Based on recent Rapido offerings these should be state of the art models.  Available with DC or Loksound equipped DCC.  Preorders are being taken with delivery in summer/fall 2015.  See the Rapido website www.rapidotrains.com for paint schemes, numbers, and pricing.

N Scale

Eastern Seaboard Models announced the third run of their N Scale X58 boxcar.  It features more detailing than many HO cars, and the paint schemes are accurate and very well done.  The body details match the paint schemes with variations such as no running board, high brake wheel, low brake wheel, and the appropriate underframe.   One model that was reviewed, a PRR car with the green PC paintouts, stock number 222701, matches prototype photos exactly.  The suggested price ranges from $34.95 to $36.25 and some cars are in short supply.  Their website is www.esmc.com.
