The Penn Central Railroad Historical Society celebrated its tenth anniversary at its 2009 annual convention in Springfield, Massachusetts. Tours included the Smith & Wesson factory, the New England Central Railroad in Palmer, MA, and the Connecticut Trolley Museum in East Windsor, CT.
A group photo was taken in Palmer with NECR 6281, built in January 1971 as Penn Central 6281. A second group shot was taken in front of NECR 3840, a GP38 that was built as Penn Central 7904. It was part of a group of four GP38s (7904-7907) built in 1971 with an extended cab front, dual controls, and no dynamic brakes.
